What is iCamp?

iCamp is an award-winning social-justice oriented summer media camp hosted at West Chester University. Since the 2016/17 school year, iCamp has invited high school students from the School District of Philadelphia to join a dedicated team of faculty experts, community organizations, and Philly media talent to plan, develop, and publish media projects addressing issues of impact to students’ lives and community needs. iCamp is centered on issues of social justice and community development, and we work to ensure that all members are anti-racist, gender inclusive, and student-affirming.

Who is Eligible for iCamp 2024?

iCamp selects participants from the School District of Philadelphia and from Chester/Upland School District. Participants must be enrolled in one of those school districts and be recommended by a teacher/administrator from one of those school districts. All participants must be enrolled in an eligible school for the 2024/2025 academic year. Students are eligible if they will be enrolled in 12th or 11th grade in September 2024. Students must commit to the values and ethos of iCamp, including its social justice mission and endeavor to be anti-racist, gender-inclusive, and student-affirming.

What is the cost of iCamp 2024?

Through the generosity of our sponsors, contributors, and WCU leadership, iCamp 2024 is available at no cost to participants. Both the 3-week college course, iCamp for Credit, and the week-long residential experience, iCamp Media Academy, are free to all participants who meet the eligibility requirements.

How do I apply to iCamp 2024?

With two distinct opportunities, iCamp 2024 has separate applications for the college credit and residential academy (3 weeks) and the residential academy (1 week). Applicants will be asked to demonstrate their eligibility, share their experience with media, and express their values. Students must ask for a recommendation from a teacher/administrator at their school. To participate in iCamp for Credit and receive college credit as a Senior/Junior in High School, students must share a transcript, GPA, and evidence of work that shows the ability to successfully complete college-work.
